140,000 signatures travelling to Brussels

The petition in protection to Rila, signed by 140,000 people has been submitted during José Barroso visit in Sofia on the 28th of March.

Due to "last minute change" Barroso did not meet with citizens who gathered infront of Parliament on Friday requesting immediate stop of illegal construction in Rila, and effective protection of environment as provided by article 15 of the Constitution of Bulgaria.

While citizens are making actions in Sofia....the destruction of nature continues silently. Friends just came back from the Southern Black Sea coast and reported that construction at the Crash 2000 site is continuing alongside with other new sites in Sinemoretz, Varvara, Butamiata and Silistar.

The construction works of the lift of Rila has not been stopped.

The Ministry of Environment has approved excavation of gold, with the use of cyanide technology, in the Chelopech mine by the Canadian firm Dundee Precious Metals.....
