Construction in Rila

Apologies for the lack of update past one month…I was fighting other battles and I am still away. There was a question raised on the blog if the protests led to any reaction of the Government what concerns illegal construction in Rila (Panichishte-Rila Lakes-Kabul).

The short answer is no.

The Ministry of Environment has made an investigation, which found the construction was not preceded by an Assessment of the Environmental Impact and it was said that the responsible regional authorities will be fined. The construction continues with heavy machines working inside the park.

Construction of the new resort “Super Borovetz” has also been commenced. Serious concerns regarding its impact on nature and local people, has been raised.

(Past experience with Bansko shows the Bansko Ski Zone footprint has exceeded its permit with 150%)

The only positive development is on the Natura 2000 zones, whose coverage has been extended now on 30% of the country's teritorry.

А cleaning campaign starts this weekend in all 10 Nature Parks – Vitosha, Zlatni Piasatzi, Strandja, Shumensko Plato, Sinite Kamani, Vrachanski Balkan, Persina, Rila Monastery, Balgarka, Rusenski Lom
